For the well dressed geek Mar 11, 2011
By Gerald McFatridge I can imagine James Bond at some formal function pulling this out of the breast pocket of his tux after he has wandered into a private office and attempts to scarper off with some villains secret plans for world domination.
This "case" is a nice departure from the typical aluminum or plastic hard cases for portable USB drives. I especially like that the cable is permanently integrated with the case - no worries about having the cable go on walkabout. That feature alone is worth one star!
Josh's review of November 2010 made some comments with which I disagree:
- yes, of course one can see thru the mesh top panel - it's mesh! The mesh panel is necessary to provide ventilation for the drive so it won't meltdown during use. That is no big deal to me but if it may be to you I guess you could spray some flat black paint on the drive surface.
- [...]
- the bottom part of the clasp does have a small patch of velcro to keep it from flopping around. It is not visible when closed and when the case is open and in use that front flap is typically "face down" on the table and is not visible so that complaint is no big deal for me.
- 2.5" drives are available in 2 thicknesses (9.5mm and 12mm if I recall correctly) and the thinner drives will rattle around a bit. I don't tend to use my external drives like a maraca so I rarely hear that. It is an easy fix to wedge a small piece of plastic in there if you might find that noise to be "offensive".
Much to Ineo's credit they ship this drive with a little screwdriver. The screws used in this case are very tiny and not everyone may have the proper size screwdriver already on hand. It is unusal for a vendor to provide a screwdriver with this sort of item so that alone is worth a half-star!
Some pc's and laptops do not provide sufficient power to the USB port thus an external drive may not function. To get more power for the drive you generally have two options:
- a "wall wart" which needs to be plugged into an AC outlet. Many vendors offer those as an optional accessory.
- a dual head USB cable that allows you to plug into, and get power from, 2 USB ports.
Again, to Ineo's credit, they ship this case with a dual head USB extender cable (most other 2.5" cases I have bought do not). You may not need it but if you do it's there. If you had to buy this kind of cable it could cost $10 itself.
I've had this case in use for a few months now and have not had any problems with it. Assembly was easy - all the screw holes lined up and there was no need to bend or twist anything to get the screws inserted. I also think that this is a great deal at $15 and a nice departure from boring aluminum cases and should be a piece of kit owned by every well dressed geek.

looks nice in pictures, looks cheap in person Nov 16, 2010
By Josh Hinnenkamp This enclosure is designed to look stylish, but any style points it scores are negated by the following:
-You can see through the black mesh top of the enclosure, so the hard drive and sata-to-usb board are partially visible.
-The leather looks cheap and plasticy.
-The lower segment of the USB clasp uses a piece of velcro to hold it in place.
Also, I know 2.5" drives come in slightly different thicknesses, but the old 80GB drive I installed was too thin. I had to put extra padding in the bottom of the enclosure so the drive wouldn't rattle. I ended up installing the drive in another brand of enclosure that did not have this problem.
What can you expect for this price, right? Well I was not satisfied.
Great while it lasts Dec 06, 2011
By Jonathan J. Soriano I bought this and have had it for about a year. I'm coming back to write a review to caution others that my enclosure is failing. It's cable runs from the USB port on the strap to the hard drive; mine has become loose and when nudged, my hard drive loses connection. I have to fiddle around with it to regain connection. It's a really great LOOKING enclosure, but without FUNCTIONALITY - it's worthless. So to help those who are searching for enclosures - look elsewhere. I'll probably end up buying this one for $5:

Solid, with a removable USB cable.
great case Nov 08, 2011
By Bonnie Korpi This case is a great setup, it fits in my pocket, has it's own usb cord and is well made. This is the second drive case from Ineo and I like both very much, one is 3 plus years old.
Great if you carry your hard drive everywhere Jun 08, 2011
By C. Chiang I'm a college student, and I carry my external hard drive everywhere, so I always have my files, most importantly portable apps. That way, when I go to the computer lab or borrow a laptop, I always feel like I'm using my own computer because I'm never missing anything.
This enclosure is definitely great if you carry around your portable hard drive on a regular basis. It's great looking, and often even a conversation starter at the computer lab since it's very unique for a hard drive. While I agree with another reviewer, that it's not as great looking as it is in the picture, it's still the best looking hard drive enclosure I've ever had. I did, however, have to knock it down one star because the cheap feeling, when combined with my excitement of having such a nice looking drive, did disappoint me.
It's well-designed so that you won't need an extra case or pouch (obviously), and the built-in USB cable is genius. You no longer have to worry about leaving your cable somewhere. The convenience alone of not needing an extra case or worry about an external cable to lose should be worth the cost.
