3Decent product... lacking accessories  Dec 28, 2011 By drewdat
I purchased one of these last week as a pilot to replace a dozen or so aging Gateway convertible tablets used by our sales force. We have a custom app that runs on Windows OS. Several of our salesmen have been trying a very awkward configuration of iPad > Remote Desktop > Mobile Broadband (Sprint Overdrive) > Internet > PC running Windows OS. Way too many links that could break in that chain.

I've tried several different tablet options out there, but the active digitizer and 10 hr battery make this the best bet (at the moment) for our needs. I've only had the X11 for a few days, but so far it performs very well with the apps we run. I haven't loaded office on it yet so I can't comment on that. I haven't used the built-in broadband yet either.

Compared to a typical laptop, the X11 is quite a bit more mobile. Easy to set on your lap, table, carry around, etc. The battery is fantastic. I can't say that I've gotten a full 10 hours out of it. I let it drain all the way as soon as I got it (as recommended in the included small instruction book) and then fully recharged it. With 99% battery life Windows 7 said I had 8.5 hours remaining. Fans are quite. Speakers aren't very loud, but okay.

Compared to an iPad (I have both iPad 1 and 2) the Kupa feels a decent bit heavier and thicker, which also makes it feel sturdier in my opinion (couldn't yet tell you if it actually is). The combination of touch screen and active digitizer is really nice. You really need an active digitizer to be able to navigate Windows 7 (especially at this resolution). The active digitizer is more responsive than the Gateway versions and a few others I've used. A big plus that it takes a single AAA battery which i can replace myself. I love the ability to use handwriting recognition when browsing the web, then my fingers to scroll around and pen flicks to copy/paste/delete/undo. Still not as fast as having a physical keyboard (esp with all the hot keys I am used to using), but I can get around a lot faster that I can on an iPad. Windows 7 is still extremely awkward with all the right-clicking and accurate cursor movements needed in comparison to iOS.

My biggest issues right now are the lack of support and accessories from Kupa. I contacted them via phone (phone goes straight to voicemail) and form on their website and haven't heard back from them. The X11 I received had obviously been used a bit before I got it. In fact, the WiFi was setup to connect to kupaworld SSID (showed me their password and everything). Maybe this just indicates they are small enough to test each device before they ship it... not sure. For my application I have to have some sort of case for this thing. I can't realistically use this for a mobile work force without some sort of simple protection. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate any. I also really wish this had some sort of a dock. I guess I will end up ordering the stand and some BT devices if I want to use this as a desktop/laptop replacement.

I haven't concluded whether or not I am going to roll these out to my sales dept. I'd love to hold out for Windows 8 and (hopefully) all the Windows tablet devices that follow... but I don't don't know if we can hold our breath that long...

***UPDATE - Kupa has been very responsive to my support queries. Appears I contacted them when their offices were closed for the Holidays. They also told me that they have a case coming out in mid-January. Once I have had a chance to try out the case, I'll make my decision on whether or not I'll use this device for my sales staff and update this review.
****It is now the end of February. I still have yet to see any case for the Kupa and have thus changed this review to 3 stars. Meanwhile we found the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 with a very similar form factor and features. The Q550 is at a similar price point but has more accessory options and comes from a bigger company which makes me feel it is a safer bet for support. After using both for a few weeks we just ordered 12 Q550s.

3Needs improvement before it can compete with top brand tablet PCs  Jan 06, 2012 By Jay
The suction air port is on the back side of the tablet which is not convenient. This product frequently overheated and shutdown during my classroom lectures (VERY FRUSTRATING!!). Battery performance was good. The best battery time I was able to get was 6.5 hours (internet, music playback, and basic pen writing). There is no available carrying case for this machine. The fan on this machine is very loud. Also the tablet is quite thick and kinda heavy. I did like the finger print feature and the pen that came with it work quite well and was accurate. The system does not operate well when many programs are open and freezes frequently. Also it does not come with microsoft office pre-installed.
