1Be sure it fits!!  Nov 29, 2009 By Bob
This is a 12.5mm 2.5" drive (not the typical 9mm used for most 2.5" drives). As other reviewers have said, this means that it will fit in select newer laptops, but many older laptops are a no-go. Unfortunately, the no-go camp includes my 2nd gen MacBook Pro. Even when researching the latest 'unibody' MacBook Pros, there is a lot of contradictory information out there about these drives, and I could find no definitive answer from Apple stating that a 12.5mm height HDD was officially supported.

Bottom line is just make sure your laptop supports the larger physical size before purchasing. A better (more visible) disclaimer from Western Digital or Amazon would have helped make a more informed purchasing decision, but I guess they in business to make sales, not to warn you that the product you are looking at may not be compatible with your system.

5Works great is newer laptops  Nov 06, 2009 By Gene Naftulyev "LA Photo Ltd"
This HD is faster to read/write data than the 320GB it replaced in a Macbook Pro. It also seems quieter as well. People who don't know if a component will fit in their notebook and order the wrong product deserve to be frustrated. This drive IS a laptop HD, as long as you have a recent Mac or Dell laptop it will fit. It will NOT fit netbooks, older laptops, any Sony laptops (that I've looked at), small external HD cases, or the PS3. Please check your specs before ordering this or the new 1TB WD laptop HD.

1Will Not Fit a Laptop  Sep 24, 2009 By Dave K
We bought three of these for our laptops but they won't fit in most laptop. These drives are 12.5mm thick while most laptops only take the normal 9.5mm thick hard drives. I'm not sure why Western Digital did this but we're going to try and get a refund for this as these are not typical 2.5" hard drives and there should be some kind of warning that they are not the normal thickness.
