5So concise and thoughtful..  Jun 25, 2005 By Shawna Simpson
I'm so impressed with the amount of information in this book... everything from how to manage money, time & nutrition, as well as, social topics such as roomates, dating safety & much much more. Mr Malone obviously is well versed in academia and student life. He's covers a vast range of topics as only someone with his experience and breadth of knowledge could. It's a very easy and enjoyable read & I would highly recommend this to all students leaving for college.

4Good information but a bit wordy  Jul 14, 2008 By YoMama
The author has done a thorough job of detailing the college experience from a student's perspective. The book starts with planning the move to college, finances, roommate selection, and whether to take a car to school. It really gets into detail when almost an entire page is spent on the practicality and pitfalls of ironing, which brings me to my point.

While the book is chocked full of advice a college student will probably need, it is text-heavy and visually less than appealing to its intended audience: 18 to 21-year-olds. I think parents will look at this book and think about how practical it is and how they will feel better about letting go just knowing all this helpful information is at their kids' fingertips. And that would be great, if kids would take the time to read it and refer back to the appropriate sections when they need help. Maybe it would be best for parents to read it, then discuss it with the kids a little at a time before they even leave for college.

For those grown kids who are committed to learning as much as they can about this huge step towards independence, and the parents who guide them, this book is an excellent source of information. 50 Ways to Leave Your Mother

5Great!  Sep 13, 2007 By Jay R. Heefner "Jay Heefner"
This book is a gift from the Guidance Dept. to each senior upon receipt of the first college acceptance. I put a personal message on the title page for each senior. The seniors really enjoy the book. It's always a nice surprise for them, and something that really can be useful as they prepare for college.

5College Survival  Sep 13, 2005 By Dorothy L. Hancock
Bought this book for a friend who said it was very helpful and informative. I plan to give this to my grandchildren when the time comes for them to go off to college.

4Review of The Everything College Survival Book  Sep 19, 2009 By Ryan S. Mease "scott.godwin"
Important note: I read the older version of this book, so a few things may have changed for better or for worse in the updated edition. Sorry for any discrepancies.

In many areas, this text is larger and more thorough than comparable college survival guides. It provides an extensive packing list; it gives students many tips on using credit cards; it describes many forms of birth control in detail.

What this guide lacks is personality. Comparable books are made more interesting with anecdotal inserts from college students. This guide contains none.

Overall, I can't recommend this more or less than comparable guides. It is more thorough; its lacks anecdotes. Choose as you please.
