5Literature Brings History Alive  Apr 06, 2008 By Marilyn E. Lubarsky
It is often literature which brings the study of history alive for students. Never was that observation more true than a reading of this marvelous book illustrates. From the first quote by Wittgenstein,to the concluding story The Name, by Aharon Megged, the narratives contained in this collection give faces to history. The thematic organization of the stories allows the teacher to pick and choose selections which can humanize classroom lectures. Readers will find it hard to put the book
down after they have read the first story. This book is a treasure.

5An Anthology for High School, College, and University Teachers and Students  Mar 13, 2008 By Rosechild
Here are 27 outstanding short stories by Holocaust survivors and contemporary writers including Ida Fink, Bernard Gotfryd, Elie Wiesel, Aharon Appelfeld, and Cynthia Ozick. The Anthology is organized chronologically and thematically, allowing teachers to incorporate selections appropriately throughout any related course of study. Each story enriches our understanding of an aspect of the Holocaust and leaves us wanting to read and learn more about this dark period in history. From Susan Prinz Shear's collection of family letters that tell the agonizing true story of family unable to escape from Nazi Germany to Aharon Megged's powerful story that captures the tragic effects of the Holocaust on the Second Generation and beyond, these works will become must reading in all high school, college, and university classes on the Holocaust. A companion Teacher's Guide illuminates each story with a literary analysis and specific and immediately useful teaching suggestions.
