Very good introduction to the field Aug 23, 2010
By Persnickety one This book occupies the middle ground between practical books like Booth (Coating Equipment and Processes ) and Weiss (Coating and laminating machines: A guide to the design, selection, and usage of coating and laminating machines) on the one end and the more scientific (and two to three times longer) book by Kistler and Schweizer (see "all my reviews" for a link -- for some reason the review software will not let me insert a link to this book here). It tends to be a good readable introduction. The academics may criticize it for not being scientific enough. Some plant engineers criticize it for not being detailed enough. On the other hand it has one huge advantage over the other books referenced: it is in print. One might argue that the reason it is still in print while the others are not is that it is actually pitched at the level that most people want to read, neither too high nor too low for the market. You might be looking for something different, but odds are this is the book to start with.
PS. The authors have another book Coating and Drying Defects: Troubleshooting Operating Problems (Society of Plastics Engineers Monographs) that is almost certainly worth owning. But I only have the first edition, so I cannot comment on the second edition.
Unexemplified introductory book for coating and drying technology Jan 29, 2007
By Tatsuro Shirai This is a good introductory book for engineers and scientists interested in film coating and drying.
It's needless to say that we shall refer to the literature cited when we need in-depth knowledge; nonetheless, it is an important book to find a lead on a matter of concern.
