5Great price for a great item!  Jul 12, 2009 By Ryan P. Fell "Audio, electronics, and fun for a living"
I hear from other places that an external hard drive should have auto-archive capabilities and other features.

That's not what I wanted. I wanted 1TB of hard drive space to keep uncompressed music, and I wanted to be able to attach that hard drive to any of my three PC's.

All it does is connect to your computer via USB, and behaves like any other harddrive. It is not especially fast. It does not have a built in theft lock. It holds 1TB of data.
At this price point, that's all it needs to do. I haven't hit any compatibility issues with XP or Vista (one of my PC's is well over 6 years old!), and it can handle data-heavy processing like ripping a CD directly to it (VERY SLOW).

Bottom line: The USB cable is short, but standard. This is exactly what anybody needs for archiving large piles of data!

1Broke quickly  Jul 15, 2009 By V. Bailey "designmomma"
I purchased this drive as a back up drive for my 2 computers (via Time Machine in OS X). It worked fine for a time, then stopped powering up all together. I had not turned it on for a few months, and during that time the 1 year warranty expired, so I am basically screwed. I emailed the company's customer service and they did not bother to email me back (I was nice in my email, and did not say when I purchased it - at minimum you would expect an ethical company to at least email back with the warranty information). I have read elsewhere that the customer service is poor, you do get what you pay for. If you buy this drive after reading my review, and it breaks (you lose data), you only have yourself to blame... go slap yourself if that happens:) Seriously, don't buy this product or anything from this company. They are crap...

5Hammer Storage HU1100-1000 1TB external hard drive  Dec 07, 2008 By Keith Presson
Easy to Install. Fast access speeds. I primarily use the drive to back up my digital pics and MP3's. Very good product for the money.

5Used for Dish Network DVR  Jan 12, 2009 By Arn
I bought this drive because for 640GB it was a steal. I have the drive connected to the USB 2.0 port on the back of my Dish Network HD receiver - thus I am using it as a DVR drive. It works great for this purpose.

5Great hard drive  Apr 28, 2009 By D. Scavotto
This hard drive is very easy to use, it just plugs right into the computer and there is no software necessary. It is a steal for the price. Haven't had any problems like some other reviews have said.
