Good all-around computer Sep 08, 2007
By A. Tseng I needed a laptop for college and I had looked everywhere for a laptop that I thought was decent. I am glad that I settled for this computer. Below or some Pros and Cons I can think of that will hopefully help you make your decision.
PROS:
-Definitely has a good video card for gaming - probably not the best, but it is one of the better ones available for laptops of this price range
-Fingerprint reader - it's just cool and it really works for all you skeptics
-Nice sound from Altec Lansing speakers, obviously not the best sound quality, but good for an in-built one
-It's pretty light (but that is relatively-speaking)
-Very nice battery life, it might even be longer than the manufacturer states. I've had almost 10 hours using word processing, the internet, and less intensive stuff. I'd imagine it could at least play 2 movies no problem if not 3.
-Keyboard feels sturdy, and the tactile response of the keys are very reassuring (at least for me, who hates those laptop keyboards that "glide" without any tactile response)
-Wifi, Bluetooth, 5-in-1 Media reader, remote control etc... there is so much stuff that comes with this baby that makes it a one-stop media station.
CONS:
-Had a few pre-installed programs that were easily removed
-Start-up time is not the best, sometimes it can take a few minutes.
-Don't really like the "touch sensitive" media controls at the top of the keyboard. Sometimes it is unresponsive, and the lack of tactile feedback is always a negative for me. If it had been buttons, I would be a lot more satisfied. But in all truth, the remote control makes up for that.
-Color... but that is subjective.
As you can see, I did have a few cons, but I did sort of counter the cons with a touch of positive. Because in reality, the cons are only minor details. It really is a great laptop and I'm glad that, after hours of searching both online and in stores, I settled for this one.

Great power on the go Sep 04, 2007
By Adam Brandt I have had this computer about 2 weeks now. I recently built a desktop with a quad core Intel CPU, but I wanted something on the go. The ONLY complaint I have is it does not come with Bluetooth as Amazon advertises, however HP does not advertise this on their site so it is a mistake on Amazons part. I use this for video editing, audio editing, cd/dvd burning, MS Offive, web browsing, and let me say for most things except extensive CPU heavy procedures like video editing where your CPU is sometimes operating at 100%. Other then that, for me this is a GREAT lil power machine. I have to say though, the day I bought it, I IMMEDIATELY reinstalled Windows Vista and reinstalled the drivers. I do not have ANY HP software, and EVERYTHING works. The fingerprint scanner uses an Asus program to store passwords and your fingerprint, but it works just fine. I had turned it on once when I received it and it is CLUTTERED with junk on it. So I can only say once installed with Windows after I reformatted the hard drive it is FAST, reliable, and I find myself using it at home even with my dekstop quad core sitting about 6 feet away. The battery that came with it gets you about 2 hours of use with the screen at full brightness. I bought a 12 cell battery which gets me about 4 and a half hours at full brightness too, however the battery protrudes from the bottom of the laptop and is heavy. The Laptop rests nicely on the 12 cell battery and puts it on a slight incline shich is nice and good for cooling. I read another review which said this laptop is loud and the space bar is loud. I dont even hear anything from this laptop, I think it is quiet as can be and the spacebar is not loud at all. But seriously I dont hear the fan unless Im in a COMPLETELY silent room and the CPU is running at 100%, I might here it BARELY. I notice alot of the problems I read below invlove HP's software and Vista. I say do what I do and reformat the laptop and reinstall Windows. You own a copy, you have the product key on the bottom of your laptop. Try and get a copy of Vista and install it and then use your own key and it is your own legal copy of Vista. I also made a cd-r with all the drivers for this laptop from my desktop cd burner. It was easy to get everything up and running. Just DONT install HP software unless you ABSOLUTELY want/need it, and I think you will be much happier with this machine. Anyway I have been building computers for a decade now, and I LOVE this lil computer...GET ONE :)

This laptop works great. Only problem is that Amazons advertised it with bluetooth. The one I just bought does not have it.

Special Edition,desktop replacement Dec 18, 2007
By Dale Julien I would recommend this labtop to anyone..It is worth every sent. The hp imprint finish is really nice.Hp really takes pride in manufacturing their items..From first glance you are attracted to the beauty and layout of this labtop..its really a special edition as printed....It is really fast.programs install so fast that sometimes you don't even see the progress bars. The graphics is supberb.I run a lot of graphic and cpu intensive programs like audio editing, video editing,dj mixing. And amazingly I can run all those programs simultaneously without any drop in system performance.and still have an anti virus scanning.the new Intel centrino duo really lives up to its name.you can really do more....the mobile remote fits in the pcmia slot so you can never lose it.The ports at the side are very useful.like the hdmi.Webcam works great and the finger print reader works nice to......I don't know why one reviewer said that it doesn't have blue tooth but this one has it as advertised and it works great..And its just the perfect viewing size to at least watch movies and have a couple of windows opened up at the same time.I give this series a full 10 because I haven't found a single problem with it.
