1I got VERY lucky!  Apr 29, 2007 By W. Groller
I bought this drive about 8 months ago to be used periodically to backup my "invaluable" data (photos, videos, music, etc). My intent was to only plug it in when I needed to store new files, then disconnect it to keep it completely safe.

Before I bought it, I had read reviews that some people had problems with the power not working properly at times that seemed to be a loose-fitting connector in the enclosure. I figured it was no big deal if mine had that problem since I wasn't going to use it a lot and I could always try taping the cord in place to ensure a good connection. Just my luck, it seemed my drive DID in fact have a problem staying on. But I was willing to live with it. In the eight months since I bought it, it spent maybe a total of an hour turned on while transferring data.

The other day I attempted to connect the drive for some backups. I plugged it in to the power strip and set about trying to get the drive to turn on. After about 5 minutes I smelled something funny. I looked around and finally found that the power brick was smoking profusely! I immediately unplugged it and stood there holding the brick by the cord as I watched sections of the plastic casing melting. I was very, very lucky that I was standing there and that I didn't leave the drive turned on at all times or my house might be a pile of ashes right now! My advice - if you do buy one of these and find that the power is not working in any way, SEND IT BACK IMMEDIATELY!

5This storage device doesn't disappoint  Mar 09, 2007 By Brooke Bucher "Ordinary Grrrl"
I bought this external hard drive back in January and I love it. I bought this one because I quickly filled up my 40GB Seagate external hard drive and wanted to upgrade to a storage device big enough so that I didn't have to worry about running out of space. I had never heard of this brand before so I was worried I'd be disappointed, but that wasn't the case. I feel this hard drive is superb quality at a fantastic price. I do recommend using the stand it comes with rather than laying it flat on a shelf or on top of your PC because it does get very warm that way. With the stand, the unit stays nice and cool.

This product is sold 3rd party through Tiger Direct, so be aware that you will have to pay shipping (you can't qualify for Super Saver free shipping) and you also have to pay taxes.

If you too are skeptical about brands you haven't heard of, I'm here to put your mind at ease. This product will meet your needs by providing a ridiculous amount of storage at an unbeatable price with the utmost quality in performance and design.

1one month life span  Aug 27, 2007 By G. Froehle
I bought two of these units for MP3 archival purposes. Both failed within one month. My sister had the first and just decided to pitch it. Cavalry replaced the second (my shipping to California), and it too has recently failed (IO errors). Great archive; time to re-rip my 2500 CDs. Avoid Cavalry products!

1Piece of Junk  Jul 28, 2007 By Richard S. Rothblum
This product is worse than useless. After I bought it, I read several reviews panning it. I bought it for backup of graphic files, especially photos. After I spent some time organizing my files and backing them up to the Cavalry external hard drive, I tried to transfer the files to another, internal hard drive. I kept getting read errors and having to start over. Fortunately, I was able to preserve the data by being persistent and copying small segments at a time. I haven't used the hard drive since.
