Brain Lectures: 3 DVD Set. DVD A: 1) Brain OverView, 2) Left Hemisphere DVD B: 3) Frontal Lobes 4) Parietal Lobes DVD C: 5) Temporal Lobes 6) Limbic System The lectures provide and introductory and advanced lectures on the functional neuroanatomy of the brain and mind. All lectures were video-taped while Dr. Joseph was delivery these lectures to an advanced class of students studying the brain. The lecturer, Dr. R. Joseph, is an internationally acclaimed neuroscientist who has published major scientific discoveries in neuroscience. Dr. Joseph obtained his Ph.D. from UHS/The Chicago Medical School, completed his Internship at the VAMC/Yale Medical Center, and began his career in the 1970s at which time he published major discoveries in neurobiology including neuroplasticity in the primate brain, early environmental influence on perception, learning, intelligence, cell death and recovery of function, competition between primate nerve cells; hormonal basis of sex differences). Dr. Joseph was the first to discover and publish evidence that primate brain cells continue to grow, compete with one another for synaptic and functional representation, atrophy when deprived of sensory input and recover when competing cells are denied sensory input, and that the primate brain is functionally plastic (neuroplasticity) and that the brain is constantly rewiring itself and neural networks and cellular circuits are constantly being formed and reorganized (Joseph & Casagrande 1978, 1980; Casagrande & Joseph, 1978, 1980). Thus, Dr. Joseph was the first to demonstrate neuroplasticity, recovery of function, neural competition, and natural selection in the primate brain, and based on his discoveries developed and published a complex theory on neural networking and competition (Joseph 1982) which was later popularized by another scientist who called it Neural Darwinism. Also, in the 1970s, Dr. Joseph published evidence that intelligence, learning, and memory could be enhanced and that physiological, perceptual, visual, behavioral, and cognitive functioning could be altered or enhanced by varying the environment, and further demonstrated that sex differences in physiology, learning, memory, cognition, and behavior, could be altered and reversed by manipulating exposure to testosterone and estrogen (Joseph et al., 1978; Joseph 1979; Joseph & Gallagher, 1980). Subsequently, Dr. Joseph continued to make and publish major discoveries, published best selling scholarly texts which received the highest praise by a variety of scientific journals, and advanced and published major theories in the biological and evolutionary sciences which were immediately adopted by other scientists. Dr. Joseph is the author of best selling neuroscience text books which have received rave reviews published by scientific journals, and has recently published a chapter on reproductive biology in space in a book edited by a NASA Senior Scientist, Science Directorate, and chapters on quantum physics and neurobiology in a book edited by Sir Roger Penrose. Dr. Joseph has also been invited to speak at U.C. Berkeley, University of Geneva, etc., my works reprinted by Harvard, etc. |

By reading guy

It is surprising to me that there are no good DVDs available on brain anatomy and function. This set of three contains lots of information but the quality is horrible....essentially you'll be watching a guy at a lectern give a talk using an overhead projector...it is the sort of thing you might have suffered through in 1990 if you took a science class then with a prof who has limited social skills and none of the technology we have now. So, it's painful to watch, it is so behind the times, almost laughable really, in terms of presentation. But the information is there which would be a good review for a student, as an alternative to memorizing book.
Brain Mind Lecture video caused me to have a seizure Apr 29, 2012
By ardnas I have epilepsy. Thirteen years ago I had a left temporal lobectomy at Beth Israel Hospital.
Since the surgery, I am unable to watch certain movies or TV programs when the picture is very blurry and not clear. If I were to watch a 3-D movie for instance, I would most probably have a grand mal seizure.
When I watched the first video on TV, the picture quality was very poor. It made me very dizzy, and after watching for ten minutes, and standing up, I felt very disoriented. I then lay on the bed and had a petit mal seizure.
How very ironic it was, that while watching about temporal lobe seizures, that I experienced one.
When I watched it on the computer, I did not experience any problems.
