5paradigm shift in the way we understand struggling kids  Sep 08, 2010 By jill greenberg
In her new ground breaking book, At Wit's End, Jill Stowell has changed the way that we understand children who struggle in school. She shows us that these misunderstood students are not lazy or unmotivated but rather that their brains are not particularly suited to academic challenges. Most importantly, she offers hope and a plan to improve their cognitive functioning through individualized brain training. Different from tutoring or teaching, this well researched approach to remediation will permanently change an individual's brain to become more successful with academic learning. This revolutionary approach is far different from the "teach to the strength" model of educational therapists or the accomodations that are offered in special education. With passion and knowledge of how the brain functions, Jill Stowell peels back the layers to help us understand that learning problems often result from weaknesses in underlying functions such as memory, auditory and visual processing and even retained reflexes. She gives new hope to parents and children that a learning problem does not need to be a permanent barrier to success in school and in life. With the right approach these problems can be permanently solved.

5Finally! Someone who understands what a parent of a LD kid is going through!  Aug 25, 2010 By Ashley
This is a wonderful resource for any parent who has a child that just isn't "making it" in school. I read the first chapter and thought, "That's my son!". It's comforting to know that I am not alone in believing that my son CAN learn despite his years of turmoil in the school system. It gives us exhausted, frustrated parents hope that there is an answer to our child's learning problems.

5A Must-Read for Parents with Struggling Kids!  Oct 08, 2010 By Beth McDonald "Beth"
As a mom of a son with learning disabilities, I KNOW that Jill Stowell is right -- learning challenges don't have to be permanent! There is hope! My son proves it! New, more efficient pathways in the brain can be developed quickly and permanently with intense, carefully sequenced, individualized, and fun "brain training" such as the Stowells do at their learning center. And they've trained others around the country in the same techniques so that more kids and adults can get help in their own locations. This book is a must-read if you're feeling frustrated and exhausted with your child's, or your own, learning struggles. Reading this book will put you on the path toward actually FIXING the learning problems. And best of all, it's an ENJOYABLE read -- easy to understand, inspirational, and great personal stories.
