3Perfect concept but has some issues  Aug 15, 2009 By Bud
Some sites' reviewers are complaining this is overpriced. True you can get 2.5" to 3.5" drive rails quite easily for only a couple bucks. The point of this product, however, is that it makes the 2.5" drive FIT into SATA backplanes and drive bays made to directly slide/hot-swap 3.5" drives. For this product's concept, I give it 5 stars.

Unfortunately, its construction is rather cheap. It consistently got jammed in one of my drive bays. In general, I am comparing to VelociRaptor HLFS "backplane" ice packs which don't have any issues and are almost too high of quality. Because of the construction and occasional fit issues, I knock it down to 4 stars.

Finally, the ventilation is very poor. When used with SSDs, it is fine, but with a normal laptop hard drive (I used a single platter 7200 RPM), and the drive got extremely hot. Thus, I give it 3 stars net.

If you REALLY need a good backplane adapter for hard drives, I'm afraid the only good ones come with the WD VelociRaptors which cost $150+. For SSDs, though, it is adequate. Also, note that Icy Dock has a newer, cheaper/simpler product for SSDs that I have not used.

5Simply Awesome!  Sep 23, 2009 By Michael S. Elkins
This 2.5" to 3.5" SSD/SATA adapter is ideal. I purchased two of them for my ABS Canyon 695 desktop case and they fit perfectly. Installation could not be simpler. There is little ventilation with these but solid state drives generate almost no heat.

If you haven't moved to solid state hard drive technology you should do so as soon as you can. These drives are wickedly fast and cannot compare to the older hard drive technology.

5Well built, works great  Feb 14, 2010 By metamatt
I used this to mount an Intel X25M SSD in a first-generation Mac Pro.

Pluses:
- it worked perfectly
- no screws needed, very easy to mount
- slick design, well built

It did exactly what it was supposed to.

Note that if you don't need a backplane mount for the 2.5" drive (normal cases don't; rack mount servers and some workstation cases like Mac Pros do), you don't need this. If you don't know if you need it, you probably don't.

5Does what it was supposed to do for SSDs.  Dec 04, 2009 By Robert A. Morin "Midwest Home Media Technology Buff Extraordinaire Wannabe"
I had little to no trouble placing my Corsair P128 SSD in this converter. It was just the right answer to turn the SSD into a desktop/gaming drive. It connected properly into the SATA connector inside the converter, it was recognized in BIOS, and installed Windows 7 without dropping. Very solid converter to turn any SSD into a desktop drive, and would recommend it. It is a little steep in the price tag, but for the simplicity of not needing any tools other than to attach it inside your PC case, it's golden.

5Extremely Easy to Use  Sep 12, 2009 By C. Stanphill
This product worked beautifully to solve the problem of fitting my SSD in my computer case. I didn't expect it to be so easy. I would highly recommend this converter.
